Spring 2026 Dates:

Feb. 12th, 10a - 1p Tiny Books

Homeschool families—get ready for a creative, hands-on experience at your art museum! During this special Homeschool Day, students will fold coin envelopes into tiny accordion books, then bring their stories to life through writing and colorful illustration.

This playful project invites young learners to become authors, artists, and book designers all in one. From the first fold to the final brushstroke, kids will craft their own miniature books to take home and share. All materials are provided, and students of all ages are welcome with a caregiver.

Mar. 12th, 10a - 1p Celebrate Women's History Month

Celebrate Women’s History Month at your art museum with a creativity-filled Homeschool Day inspired by women artists who push the boundaries of color and feeling. Students will explore abstract watercolor techniques influenced by the work of Memphis-based artists Kong Wee Pang and Amy Hutcheson. Using a special emotional response guide, young artists will discover how color, shape, and line can express feelings—and then bring those ideas to life in a vibrant watercolor composition.

Apr. 9th, 10am-1pm Playful Pottery

Let’s get sculpting! April’s Homeschool Day invites students to explore the playful possibilities of pottery, inspired by the museum’s current exhibition of Memphis College of Art (MCA) works. Young artists will use model magic and clay tools to create their own imaginative vessels—learning basic sculpting techniques while exploring the artistic tradition of pottery in a hands-on way.

Whether it’s a whimsical bowl, a futuristic vase, or a fantastical cup, students will use creativity and tactile learning to build their own ceramic-inspired creation. This session connects directly to the MCA exhibition on view, making for a full-circle experience that blends gallery exploration with studio experimentation.

Come to the Memphis Brooks Museum of Art  for free to take a guided tour of the collection and make art in our studio! Homeschool Days are 10am-1pm. Docent tours begin at 10:30 and 11:15. Drop in art-making will be available from 10am-1pm. Gallery guides with information and discussion questions will also be available. Feel free to explore the museum on your own after 1pm!
