Four actors bring various historical events like the Montgomery Bus Boycott to life, along with scenes from significant plays including Douglas Turner Ward’s Day of Absence.

Songs corresponding with each story weave through enslaved Blacks using call and response to escape North, and Mahalia Jackson partnering with Martin Luther King Jr. in the Civil Rights Movement.

I, Too, Am America celebrates the contributions that Black people have made to American culture. It was written to entertain audiences and introduce them to significant points of history through drama and music.
